The University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo is one of the leading comprehensive universities, with a strong curriculum and research in six faculties of applied health sciences, arts, engineering, environmental studies, mathematics and science.

Four other institutions - St. Jerome's University, Conrad Grebel University College, Renison College, and St. Paul's United College - Federated or are affiliated with the University of Waterloo. Located on the main campus of Waterloo, these institutions participate in the delivery and management of academic programs and offer additional residential spaces for students.

Five respected vocational schools are based in the faculties: Accounting and Finance, Architecture, Computer Science, optometry, and planning, with a sixth, the School of Pharmacy, which began admitting students in 2008. A program in software engineering is offered jointly by the faculties of engineering and mathematics. A programme of engineering in the field of nanotechnology, a joint venture by the faculties of Engineering and Science, was launched in 2005.
Faculty of Applied Health Sciences

With a focus on health promotion, wellness and prevention of illness and injury, of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences offers programs of study in health and gerontology, kinesiology, recreation and recreation and education. Recent initiatives include the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging and new graduate programs in public health, aging, health and well-being and work and health. A 26000-square-foot expansion of the Lyle S. Hallman Institute for Health Promotion supports research on population health, active living, cancer prevention and care, health informatics and injury prevention in the workplace. In 2005-06 the faculty of life and social sciences attracted $ 13.4 million in research funding. The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences is also home to Canada Research Chairs in integrative biology disease, spine and biomechanics, injury prevention, and control sensorimotor.
Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts is the largest and most diverse of the six faculties at the UW. With a solid traditional foundation, we offer programmes in the areas of basic follows: creativity and performance, memory, identity and culture, local and global engagement, society, science and technology, business , policy and management and cognition and behavior. Our 17 units offers nine academic doctoral programs, 17 master's programs, 24 programs and honors, the most important of the arts cooperative education program in the world. Research at the Faculty of Arts focuses on the acquisition of knowledge, mobilization and the impact at the local, regional and global levels. We are also home to school as a leader in Canadian accounting and financial controls and the newly created Balsillie School of International Affairs.
Faculty of Engineering

Waterloo programme of undergraduate engineering Canada is the best. We offer undergraduate programs in the major disciplines of engineering and architecture, as well as in new areas such as multi mechatronics and nanotechnology. All 5300 students are enrolled in the cooperative education program, the largest in the world. The Faculty of Engineering is also home to more than 1400 graduate students. Twice in recent years, our students have won the prestigious Prix de doctorat NSERC. Student teams are an important part of the Faculty of Engineering, and to hold regular top honours at home. For example, a team of students from Waterloo recently dispatched the only Canadian entry in the Challenge X Crossover to Sustainable Mobility competition cars. Our research portfolio increasingly attracted 32.3 million in research funding in 2005-06. RIM, Dalsa, Sirific Wireless, Handshake VR, and Intelligent Mechatronic Systems are some of the companies that were founded by researchers at Waterloo Engineering.
Faculty of Environmental Studies
Environmental studies II

Researchers, students and staff of the Faculty of Environmental Studies are committed to protecting the ecological systems, the understanding of the relationship between human and natural systems, and the promotion of sustainable communities. The faculty offers programs in environment and the economy, the environment and resource studies, geography, geography and aviation, geomatics, global governance, international development, integration of knowledge, local economic development, planning and tourism policy and planning. The faculty is home to the Canada Research Chair in Global Change and Tourism and the Ecoplan China, UW one of the largest international development projects. Finding homes comprise medium-sized cities, remote sensing, wetlands, parks, ecological restoration, cryosphere (snow and ice), green energy, and climate change. Recent price includes a member of the Royal Society of Canada, the highest honour in Canada for researchers, artists and scientists.
Faculty of Mathematics
Math and Computer building

The Faculty of Mathematics is the largest center of mathematics and computer sciences, with the teaching and research in actuarial science force, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, combinatorics and optimization, mathematics, computer science, management financial risk, operational research, pure mathematics, software engineering, and statistics. The faculty has 40 years of history of outreach in schools across Canada and beyond, and continues to attract students who regularly take place between the leaders in mathematics and computer competitions. The members of our institutes and research centres collaborate with academic and industrial partners across the world. Pure and applied research in the UW Faculty of Mathematics has led to breakthroughs in areas ranging from financial services to scheduling and logistics, health sciences of the high-tech industry.
Faculty of Science
Physics building

The cutting edge of discovery, state-of-the-art facilities and researchers who typically attract more than $ 40 million in research funding per year, the Faculty of Science offers opportunities for innovation and experimentation. Our world-class programs include science and business of biotechnology / accounting, physical sciences and life sciences. The faculty also houses the Institute for Quantum Computing, which is dedicated to the advancement of fundamental experimental and theoretical knowledge. Also based in science are the School of Optometry (in Canada only in English optometry school) and the School of Pharmacy - UW anchor institution for downtown Kitchener the new campus of Health Sciences and the satellite campus of McMaster University, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. Distinguished in areas such as aquatic ecology, solid-state chemistry, biology, water contamination cleanup, laser science, quantum computing, and astrophysics, scientists working closely with industry leaders to address the difficult issues and conduct pioneering research.
Conrad Grebel University College

Conrad Grebel University CollegeConrad Grebel University College hosts UW music, peace and conflict studies, and the Mennonites and offers programs of study courses in the Faculty of Arts, including religious studies. Since 2007, Grebel's Master of Theological Studies program is offered in conjunction with the UW. We offer a home and community for the 174 students in our residence and apartments. The facilities include a library and archives, "smart" classrooms, a spacious atrium lounge for students and updates and study spaces. The college hosts a variety of conferences, seminars and concerts where cutting-edge research and musicality is presented and celebrated.
Renison College

CollegeRenison Renison College offers a variety of programs in the arts, studies of East Asia, and the social sciences as well as a unique post-BA Bachelor of Social Work. A variety of ESL courses are offered through the English Language Institute. In conjunction with several universities in China and Japan, Renison is the place designated for a Confucius Institute. Residence area includes 220 beds, and a new wing houses a university multimedia language lab, East Asian Studies Resource Centre, and a 4300-square-foot library.
St. Jerome's University

St. Jerome's Roman Catholic university UniversityA federated with the University of Waterloo, St. Jerome's University offers programs in arts, mathematics, legal studies, Italian studies, and medieval studies, and a single programme of BA in sexuality, marriage and family studies. Major research includes studies of love and hate, urban culture, and a project on religion and ethnicity. Faculty members also hold Research Chairs in quantum computing and cryptography. St. Jerome's provides space for 280 students stay home and the St. Jerome's Centre for Catholic Experience.
St. Paul's College

St. Paul's CollegeSt. Paul's College offers a program of undergraduate degree in International Development, in partnership with the Faculty of Environmental Studies, available to first-year students entering UW in the fall of 2008. The college also teaches courses in the humanities and social sciences and presents annual taught, including Kerr-Saltsman conference on international affairs. St. Paul's hosts UW's Environmental Studies-Community Living and Learning offers 194 seats in dormitory residence, the apartments at more than 100 graduate students, and eight hotel-style rooms for visiting college campuses and guests. The university Aboriginal Services Office is based in St. Paul.
